Version 2, 9 October 2026.

Sabo Typist is made by Joe DeLuca. This page says what Sabo Typist, its iPhone and Apple Watch app, Sabo Mailbox and sabotypist.com know about you, and what happens to it. It is short so that you can read all of it. Questions go to info@sabotypist.com.

1. What you write

What you write stays yours and stays with you. Sabo Typist keeps your documents as ordinary files: in folders you choose on your Mac, and in the app’s own folder on your phone. Nothing you write is sent to us, read by us, or used to train anything.

The app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It does not report how you use it.

2. The phone and the watch

The phone keeps everything on itself. If you pair it with Sabo Typist on your Mac, what you write on it goes to the Mac one of three ways, and you choose which:

  • Your own network. On the same Wi-Fi, or with the Mac on the phone's hotspot, the phone talks to the Mac directly. Nothing passes through any server.
  • iCloud Drive. If you choose a folder in iCloud Drive, the phone writes there and Apple carries it to your Mac, as it does any file. Apple's privacy policy covers that.
  • Sabo Mailbox. See section 3.

Speech is turned into words on the phone itself wherever the phone can do it. Where it cannot, iOS sends the recording to Apple's speech recognition, under Apple's privacy policy, and nothing of it reaches us. The recording is kept with your note so you can play it back.

The phone asks for the microphone, speech recognition, the camera, your photos and your local network only when you use the thing that needs them. It uses each only for that.

3. Sabo Mailbox

Sabo Mailbox carries your work between your phone and your Mac when they are not near each other, and keeps it, so that it can come back if you lose them.

When you pair them, your Mac makes a key and shows it to the phone as a code on the screen. The key never leaves your Mac and your phone. Everything the mailbox carries is sealed with it (ChaCha20-Poly1305) before it leaves either device. We hold only sealed bytes under names that say nothing about them. We cannot open them, and neither can anyone who takes them from us.

What the mailbox keeps, all of it sealed:

  • What your phone sends, until your Mac collects it. When your Mac is connected, it is handed straight over and never stored at all.
  • A copy of your projects: their documents, their notes and the notes' pictures and recordings, and each project's settings. It is replaced as they change, up to 5 GB.

Because only your devices hold the key, nobody else can give it back to you if you lose them. So the key can be kept in more places, all of them yours, none of them ours: every phone and Mac you pair; a recovery sheet you print (File › Print Recovery Sheet…); and, if you choose, a trusted person with Sabo Typist, whose Mac keeps it sealed so that only theirs can open it (File › Trusted Person). Lose all of those together and the mailbox cannot be opened by anyone, us included.

Unpair on the Mac (File › Pair a Phone… › Unpair) and the mailbox is deleted, with everything in it. A mailbox that is paid for is kept while it is paid for, and deleted 90 days after it stops being paid for.

Like any server, the mailbox sees the internet address a request comes from. It does not keep it.

4. Buying Sabo Typist

On sabotypist.com, the payment is taken by Stripe. We never see your card. We keep your email address, and Stripe keeps the record of the payment, because your licence key is made from them and the receipt goes to that address. The email is sent by Resend.

Sabo Mailbox is bought on sabotypist.com, by the month or the year, from the Mac. Stripe takes the payment and keeps your email address for the receipts and the subscription. The subscription is tied to your mailbox by its number, a random one, and to nothing else: it says that a mailbox is paid for, never what is in it.

The iPhone and Apple Watch app is free, and nothing is bought in it.

5. The website

sabotypist.com has no analytics and no advertising. It sets one cookie, and only if you change the language: it remembers your choice. The buy page loads Stripe, which sets its own cookies to stop fraud.

If you sign up to hear about new versions or new builds, we keep your email address in Resend for that and nothing else. Every email says how to stop them, or write to us and we will take you off.

The site and the mailbox are hosted by Vercel. Their servers keep ordinary request logs, briefly, as every host does.

6. Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or take it elsewhere: write to info@sabotypist.com. Wherever you live, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

We do not sell anything about you, and we never will.

7. Changes

If this page changes, the new version is put here with its date. If a change gives us anything more about you, the apps will tell you before it applies.
